SYMBOLS for VISUALIZING (Seen in the video):
Sunset-Red Body of Light: Visualized not as a solid physical object, but as a vibrant, glowing body of transparent red light, glowing like a brilliant mountain setting sun.
Red Nectar Vessel: Held in her hands or on a lotus, containing purifying nectar that heals emotional torment and dispels all sorrow.
The Victory Umbrella / Banner: Her key protective implement. The Victory Umbrella symbolizes impenetrable spiritual protection, the magnetizing of favorable conditions, and the complete subjugation of internal and external maras (demonic forces, negative karma, and psychological hindrances).
Four-Armed Form (Surya Gupta Tradition): In the detailed Surya Gupta lineage, she appears as a four-armed peaceful red deity seated on a lotus and sun disc, holding specific symbolic implements to subdue obstacles and lead practitioners into the mandala.

Do you occasionally feel helpless or powerless to change your situation, or that of your family and friends who are in trouble? Do you have difficulty sleeping, always worrying about tomorrow? Are you frightened by world events that seem beyond our control? Does life feel bleak, and frightening and you feel there is no way to change it?
In todayโs Buddhist Mantra time-out, our quick fix practice, we meditate on overcoming helplessness and powerlessness. We will meditate on the magnetizing power of powerful Red Tฤrฤ, in her aspect of magnetizing as Tฤrฤ Trailokya Vijayฤ, or Tara Who Controls Three Worlds. We will invite her magnetizing power to help us with her beautifully chanted mantra. You will feel instantly empowered.
Whether youโre struggling with the helplessness of circumstances beyond your control, or out-of-control world events, or unfair attacks from those around you, Red Tฤrฤ, especially the 10th of the 21 Tฤrฤs is the Tฤrฤ Who Brings Maras and the World Under Her Power. She can help to reconnect with your Buddha Nature, your inner Mother Tฤrฤ, where your own power resides at your own heart chakra.
When we wrap ourselves in the bright, warm red light of our magnetizing Buddha Nature, we understand that we are inseparable from all beings in the Universe. We have never been alone. We will always be supported in the comfort of the three Jewels, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha and especially in the loving arms of Mother Tฤrฤ.
In Buddhist psychology, the feeling of helplessness or โbeing out of controlโ or powerless is directly associated with our desires. We desire stability, so a volatile economy makes us feel unbalanced and out of control. We desire good health, so a spreading flu virus makes us feel helpless. We are proud of doing a good job at work, but our desire to be in control is threatened by world events, and strife. If the world feels chaotic, it is because we desire stability and comfort. The attachment to โcomfort and stabilityโ stems from what Buddha called the klesha, or poison, of desire and attachment.
The โBuddhistโ cure for this poison is the compassion exemplified by the Padma or Lotus Buddha family of Amitabha and Red Tฤrฤ. This compassion arises from what is called Discerning Wisdom, or the wisdom of correct perception. The correct perception of the world and all beings is Oneness. We are not separate. We are One.
From that discernment arises the activity of Compassion, which is the activity of the Padma family, and especially of Red Tฤrฤ. Red is the symbolic color of the Lotus family, symbolizing the beautiful shining light of a red sunset in the west. This is usually expressed as Dharma Speech. Spreading the Dharma is the activity of Compassion, and the activity of the Padma family.
This poison of attachment and desire is cold. Icy cold. Frigid and frightening. For this reason, the practices in Buddhism associated with overcoming the poison of desire and attachment are symbolically red like the comforting view of a beautiful setting sun. This is why we think of them as in the West.
Within that beautiful Red spectrum we turn especially to the 10th of the Tฤrฤs. She is often depicted wtih the Victory Banner, signifying her victory over all Three Worlds and the Maras or obstacles. Or, with a vase in her hands pouring out the magnetizing nectar of compassion. Her other name is Tฤrฤ Who Dispels All Suffering. This is the literal meaning of her Sanskrit name ลoka-vinodana-Tฤrฤ. Her other titles include Tฤrฤ Who Controls the Three Worlds, in Sanskrit Tฤrฤ Trailokya Vijayฤ, and also Victory Banner Red Tฤrฤ. Her praise is:
Homage to You, the majestic and joyful, with brilliant garlands of light around your crown. With the great clangor of laughter Tuttฤrฤ, you over power all the worlds and the maras.
Visualize Red Tฤrฤ Trailokya Vijayฤ with us now. See her warm, comforting, glowing red light going out from her heart to all beings in the Universe, then returning to your own heart, and surrounding you in warm, protective, red light. Over her head and now over your head is a protective umbrella of light.
This glowing red light is the color of magnetizing, fire, and compassion The victory umbrella we see over her head, and now over our head is made of her impenetrable protective and compassionate light.
She uses her magnetizing power to attract the appropriate conditions and helpful people we need on our path.
As you inhale, imagine this warm, vibrant red light flowing out from her heart. It enters your own heart, the center of your own Buddha Nature.
Feel this warm light instantly dissolve the cold, gray clouds of despair and helplessness inside you.
And as you exhale, breathe out all your uneasiness, instability, fears, anxiety, feelings of helplessness, and stress. See it as a stream of cold, gray smoke. Visualize it vanishing completely into empty space.
Now, visualize Red Tฤrฤ, her umbrella expanding to cover not only you, but also the people surrounding you. And around you are not just people you know and love, but everyone. Enemies. Relatives, Family. Friends. Strangers. Animals. All of our relatives.
Let your mind merge completely with her wisdom mind. Rest in this peaceful state, remembering you are never separate, never isolated. You are one not only with Red Tฤrฤ Trailokya Vijayฤ, but with all beings.
Continue meditating on Red Tฤrฤ while listening, or chanting along with the beautiful Sanskrit mantra of Tฤrฤ Trailokya Vijayฤโs Power Mantra recorded by our very own Hrishikesh Sonar and the Buddha Weekly Band. May this sacred sound continue to warm your heart. You do not need empowerment for this mantra if you have Bodhichitta intention โ the intention to benefit all sentient beings.
