🌙 UPAVASATHA or RENEWAL or PURIFICATION Day
The New Moon, 30th Lunar Day — is a traditional time for renewal, especially for:
✅ Deep self-reflection (like a spiritual mirror)
✅ Releasing negative patterns (karma-clearing mantras)
✅ Manifesting wisdom (Buddha’s third-quarter blessing)
How to Participate and Purify
🙏 🙏 🙏 Generally, Lama Zopa advised: “New Moon is “good for all practices” such as your Yidam or any other Dharma practice with MERIT MULTIPLED, and especially any renewal of vows.
Shakyamuni Buddha Resources
Traditionally on this day, we recite Sutras or Suttas, Parittas, and especially the Seven Buddhas Practice, the SAPTABUDDHAKA 7 BUDDHA MANTRAS IN SANSKRIT, and the supreme Maha Jayamangala Gatha , Buddha’s Joyous Victor. Ideally we do a Puja and full practice with offerings, and chant his mantra. Resources follow:
