LOSAR and CHINESE NEW YEAR! Losar Tashi Delek ལོ་གསར་བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས།
February 10, 2024 is both LOSAR New Year in Tibetan tradition and Chinese New Year.
This year is the Wood Dragon. Lucky Colors include green, gold and yellow.
“Karmic results are multiplied one hundred million times, as cited by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, from the Vinaya text Treasure of Quotations and Logic. Days 1–15 of Month 1: Lord Buddha performed many miracles; the 15th is Day of Miracles.”Day one is LOSAR.
“Preparation for Losar can start as much as a month beforehand. The days immediately preceding Losar are focused on cleaning, purification, preparing many offerings in various forms, and invoking the wisdom protectors. This is a time to deep clean one’s home preparing for the newness of the new year, purification and removing obstacles. It is a time for donating unused items to those in need. Traditionally, new clothes are made to wear during the Losar celebration. ”
LOSAR is also the First Day of the 15 Days of Miracles, which celebrate Shakyamuni Buddha’s wonderful 15 miracles, one per day for 15 days, this year from February 10 – 25, 2024. All 15 Days are Holy Buddha Days with increased merit for practices. Learn more about the 15 individual miracles, celebrated one per day, in this feature>>
