We warmly invite you, your family, and friends to join us in celebrating the sacred Anniversary of Wei Tuo Pusa (Skanda Bodhisattva), the noble guardian and protector of the Dharma and Buddhist monasteries, Bodhisattva and Protector. Wherever you are on July 16, please take a moment to think of great Wei Tuo, the selfless, heroic champion of Dharma who helps all beings who call on him.

🌸 How to Honor Wei Tuo Pusa in your Own Practice:

As the anniversary Day of Wei Tuo, all merit from practices is multiplied, especially if you dedicate your merits to the benefit of all sentient beings. Merit practices include:

• Recitation of Sutras: Chanting dedicated to protection and peace.
• Tea Offering: Traditionally, tea is offered to highly active protector Bodhisattvas to symbolize their energy and power of activity in helping us. Pour tea in a special cup and place before an image of Wei Tuo Pusa (or visualize Wei Tuo in front of you mentally.)
• Blessing & Dedication of Merits: Praying for world peace, smooth Dharma practice, and the well-being of all beings.

• Offerings: Mental or visualized offerings, black tea, water bowls, vegetarian food, flowers and sound (mantras,  music)

Translation to English of the Dharani Praise and mantra:

The traditional morning Dharani verse, translates  as:

General Wei To, incarnation of Bodhisattva,

Protector of the Buddha-Dharma, with vows vast and profound,

Your precious vajra sword subdues the demonic hordes,

Your merit and virtue are incomparable,

Homage to the Bodhisattva of Universal Sight, Mahasattva!

Mahaprajnaparamita, Great Perfection of Wisdom.

This is followed by Namo Wei Tuo Pusa, meaning I prostrate to Wei Tuo Bodhisattva.

Chant along with 3 Gems Band as they sing the meditative, but powerful opening praise followed by Namo Wei Tuo Pusa mantra.

May all beings benefit.

Heavenly General Wei Tuo, incarnation of a Bodhisattva,

Protecting the Buddha-Dharma, his vows are vast and profound,

His precious pestle subdues the demonic armies,

His merit and virtue are incomparable,

We pray he approaches the altar,

Homage to the Bodhisattva of Universal Sight, Mahasattva!

Maha Prajna Paramita (Great Perfection of Wisdom).

🌟🌟🌟 About Wei Tuo Skanda Bodisattva:

In the same way, we see his giant statues in front of temples, guarding the doors and gates, he is the Protector, the Bodhisattva who removes the obstacles. We ask the Heavenly General Wei Tuo or Skanda to remove thes obstacles before any major practice. Or, just at the beginning of our day, to ensure we have an obstacle-free day.

🔥🔥🔥 In tradition he is the Heavenly General who defeats all the demons. Whichever lineage or tradition or temple, it is often the Great General of Heaven we pray to to remove the obstacles, the demons, the negative karma — before we even begin our main practices.
