Filling in the blanks

By now we all know the critical role our parents play in our early lives , helping to create the mental formations that make us who we are. During childhood every moment our minds are intensely absorbing our parents attention and energies or lack thereof, which in my experience has shown a pattern in which my childhood recollections are filled with negative self manufactured emotional refuse. Here is an example.

Growing up in a divorced family I was raised by only one parent.

The Everyday Meditator

Just wanted you all to know that I have started a newspaper entitled “The Everyday Meditator.” You can follow the link here: The Everyday Meditator

The purpose of the paper is to promote all types of meditation. EM uses input from many sources. From blogs to web sites, Facebook and Twitter postings to video/multi media sources and published articles, I try to use all resources available. There is no fixed “religious” undertone…

Mindfulness is Good For You Say Scientists

By Lee Kane

Every day I find a little time for mindfulness sitting meditation, and as often as possible I practice mindfulness while walking, performing chores—taking out the garbage, shovelling snow, Tai Chi. Mindfulness is an important practice in virtually all schools of Buddhist…

Tonglen and How to Do it

I found this amazing article on one of my favorite practices, the beautiful art of “taking and giving”, Tonglen. This article explains in detail what the practice is and is extremely helpful. Pay close attention to the section entitled “Suggestions For the Practice of Tonglen.” This practice is another aspect of loving kindness and helps cultivate bodhicitta - the awakened heart of compassion and wisdom...

Discovering intuition

One of the most minuscule forms of life on the planet is the human cell. This is an organism that intuitively knows it's every task. It never questions it's situation, for it knows exactly what it needs to accomplish it's functions. This cell is one of trillion's in a vast network of cells all operating in unison. Harmonizing perfectly with one another.

No direction is needed, no goals are set. There is never a single criticism or judgement made. Only trillions of cells functioning as one.… Continue

Why Incense is More Than Just a Pleasant Backdrop to Meditation

By Lee Kane

I'm addicted to incense. I burn it morning. I burn it evening. I find it triggers something in me, a sense of peace, a sense of coming inside, but also a feeling of connection. Nearly all spiritual paths—secular or…

Confidence in the Validity of the Buddha’s Teachings on Dharma

This is a wonderful teaching from Kybje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche from the monastery that I am affiliated with, Kagyu Thubten Choling. It is quite an article:

Me YES Like You. A New Kindness Movement?

By Lee Kane

Today, I was listening to Mike Bullard, a Canadian celebrity talk show host on NewTalk 1010 with a comical bent. It was a long commute, and as usual he has me in stitches.

As much as he likes to appear crusty and cantankerous, he has a compassionate side that often shines through, as it did today.

He told the story of how he went down to the street…
